History
Bob Fox founded Fox Racing Shox in 1974 to build shocks for motocross. The company moved into mountain bikes as suspension arrived on them and is now one of the two main suspension makers alongside RockShox.
Mountain products
- Forks: 32 and 34 for cross-country and trail, 36 and 38 for enduro, 40 for downhill — the number is the stanchion diameter in millimetres.
- Rear shocks: Float (air) and DHX (coil) families.
- Transfer dropper posts.
Performance and Factory
Factory-level products carry Kashima Coat — a gold anodised finish that lowers friction on the stanchions — and the most adjustable dampers. Performance products share the chassis with simpler adjustment.

- RockShox — An American suspension brand founded in 1989 by Paul Turner. Its first fork, the RS-1, brought front suspension to mountain biking; since 2002 the brand has been part of SRAM.
- Suspension fork — The telescopic front fork that lets the front wheel move up over bumps instead of throwing them into your hands. It is what steers the bike through rough ground.
- Rear shock — The spring and damper that control the rear wheel of a full-suspension bike. Its tune and setup decide whether the back of the bike grips, pedals and lands well.
- Dropper post — A seatpost that drops at the push of a lever on the bar and rises again on its own. The saddle goes out of the way for the descent and comes back for the climb, without stopping.
- Suspension setup — Half an hour with a shock pump makes a bigger difference than most upgrades. Set the air pressure by sag, then rebound, then compression — one change at a time.
